Chen Wins the MacDonald Cup

College golf courses don’t come with much better pedigree than Yale Golf Club—the Charles Blair MacDonald-Seth Raynor masterpiece set in a nature preserve in New Haven, CT.

Peicheng Chen plays his best on courses that reward quality shots, and he opened with 14 birdies over 36 holes on Saturday to set up a comfortable win in the 46th annual MacDonald Cup hosted by Yale.

Chen shot rounds of 64-65-72 to beat Yale’s Will Lodge by four. It was Chen’s first college victory, and it came after a dominant summer where he won the Long Island Amateur and Met Public Links titles.

It is the second tournament Chen played with the new Edel SMS irons in the bag. Looks like it was a pretty good switch as his scoring average is 66 and he has birdied 30% of the holes played so far this year.
